Health and Safety Policy Statement
Sinbad Plant Ltd recognises its statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and accompanying legislation to provide and maintain, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of work for all employees, and to ensure that any work undertaken by the Company does not adversely affect the Health and Safety of those employees or other persons that may be affected by their Acts or Omissions.
The Company shall ensure that the requirements of the Railways (Safety Critical Work) Regulations 1994, plus all necessary Risk Assessments, shall be complied with, so far as is reasonably practicable, by all employees working on or about the railway infrastructure.
All employees shall be provided with such equipment, information and training as may be necessary to implement this policy.
Sinbad Plant Ltd recognises and accepts their duty and responsibility for the Safety and Health of others who may be affected by its activities, such as visitors to the Company, principal contractors, subcontractors, as well as members of the public.
The allocation of duties for safety matters and the particular arrangements that are made to implement this policy are set out in this Health and Safety Policy Document The overall responsibility for Health and Safety within the Company is that of the Managing Director. In this he shall ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to provide adequate resources to meet the Company's obligations set out in this policy.
The Company will set targets and objectives to enable continual improvement in safety performance.
Employees are under a legal obligation to co-operate fully with the Managing Director. This includes maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for themselves, and others, following Company safety rules and procedures, reporting any hazardous condition to their immediate supervisor and using protective equipment provided.
In addition employees shall not interfere with any equipment provided by the Company in the interest of Health & Safety.
This policy shall be kept up to date. To ensure this, the policy and the way in which it has operated, shall be reviewed at least annually.
Environmental Policy Statement
It is the policy of Sinbad Plant Limited to manage all of its activities so as to give benefit to society, ensuring that they meet relevant laws and regulations, are acceptable to our customers and the community at large and that their environmental impact is reduced to a practicable minimum.
In so doing, Sinbad Plant Ltd will ensure compliance with its responsibilities under UK environmental legislation.
There are four areas in which we will positively influence environmental awareness and compliance:
In support of our core activities, we will ensure that our process for procuring consumable supplies maximise the use of biodegradable fluids and sustainable raw materials, those that can be re-cycled and those that have already been re-cycled.
We will ensure that our process for disposing of all waste materials allow compliance with applicable legislation / duty of care obligations and maximise the possibility for the segregation of waste that can be re-cycled from that which can’t (refer to Work Instruction SQW215 Waste Management & Disposal for further details).
Sinbad Plant Ltd will maximise the efficiency of its use of consumed energy through the adoption of an efficient transport policy for its personnel and the control of the use of its electrical supplies and consumables at its premises.
As a provider of RRV's and operators to the railway industry, we will promote the highest standards of environmental excellence in customer organisations by matching our project's environmental controls with the policies of our customers.
Sinbad Plant shall:
- Encourage and promote best practice and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
- Do all that is reasonable when purchasing or selling plant and equipment to minimise the environmental impact over the life cycle.
- Provide information and assistance to ensure that materials are used, stored and disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Promote the open exchange of environmental information with customers and suppliers.
- Provide appropriate environmental training where necessary.
- Comply with the requirements of its customer’s environmental policies.
- Prevent pollution as far as possible by maintaining plantand equipment and ensure the efficient off-site disposal or re-use of waste materials.
- The company will set targets and monitor environmental objectives to enable continual improvement in environmental performance.
This policy statement will be formally reviewed on an annual basis at the Management Review meeting, refer to Procedure SQP100 Management Review & Quality Audit for further details.
Quality Policy
Sinbad Plant Ltd recognises that the provision of a consistently high standard of product and service is the keystone to our success, reputation and the total satisfaction of our customers.
Sinbad Plant Limited is dedicated to operating a Quality Management System in accordance with the principles of BS EN ISO 9001:2000; in order to demonstrate its commitment to quality, to both customers and employees.
We will constantly aim to:
· Identify objectives across the business, aimed at continuous improvement of the Quality Management system and enhancing customer satisfaction
· Be open to new ideas and adaptive to change· To be resourceful and innovative in meeting our customers needs and expectations
· Identify opportunities for preventive action, continuous improvement and to measure the effectiveness of the Quality Policy This policy will be reviewed annually as part of the Management review process, to ensure its continued relevance and adequacy.It is part of the Company’s training programme; to ensure that this policy statement is briefed, understood and implemented at all levels within the company.
Drugs & Alcohol Policy Statement
Sinbad Plant Limited will take all reasonable steps to ensure that all employees and temporary workers are made aware of this Policy statement.
Work Instruction SQW201 Drugs and Alcohol defines the process and responsibilities for ensuring compliance with Railway Group Standard GE/RT8070 and Network Rail Company standards RT/LS/S/008 & RT/LS/P/051 and preventing, so far as is reasonably practicable any offences under the Transport and Works Act 1992.
It is a condition of employment with Sinbad Plant Limited, that no employee or temporary worker shall:
- Report, or endeavour to report for duty whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Report for duty in an unfit state due to the use of alcohol or drugs.
- Be in possession of controlled drugs in the work place.
- Consume alcohol or drugs whilst on duty.
All employees or temporary workers engaged in activities with Sinbad Plant Limited, must ensure their Supervisor / Line Manager are notified of any prescribed or over-the-counter medication being taken that may affect or impair their safe performance.
Additionally, they must notify their doctor of the type of activities they are engaged in when considering any medication prescribed.
Sinbad Plant Limited will not tolerate any contravention of this Policy and will take the appropriate action in the event of an infringement.
A monitoring process will be implemented to ensure that all controls are implemented and effective and so ensure an effective contribution to safe working within the UK Rail Industry.
This policy statement will be formally reviewed on an annual basis.

The company also operate a number of WORKSAFE policies including a right to refuse to work if unsafe to do so. All accidents and near misses are recorded and reviewed periodically to ensure that lessons can be learned from these incidents.
